For the nth (was it second or third?) time, I was caught inside a jeepney with not enough coins, except for 500 peso bills. It was really stupid of me! I could have checked for coins and smaller bills before hitting the jeepney. Or I could have flagged down a taxi, instead.

Thank God, a savior came with her five 100-peso bills. That was kind of a relief. If not for that, I could have gotten a free ride, which I did once (or many times?) when I left my wallet.

How I wish I have so many “Ninoy’s” in my wallet! It would then be “keep the change” for me. No worries.

Q: What would you do if you found out that all you have is a 500 peso bill while you were in a jeepney ride for 8 pesos?

a. Tell the jeepney driver the truth as you hand him your fare. Keep your fingers crossed and be prepared to be cursed by the driver. The chance that he has a change, though, is very least.

b. Keep silent and pretend as if you already made your fare. If the driver (or the conductor) calls your attention, tell him that you already paid. If not, look for other choices.

c. Ask the driver if he has a change to your bill. So as to avoid being condemned by the driver. If he has none, then think of options again.

d. Give the driver your money and forget the change. Really?

e. Disembark immediately even if the jeepney is still running. Be sure your cellphone is ready to call the ambulance.

f. Ask (kindly or not) other passengers to pay for your fare. Alms for the poor rich.

g. If you know you won’t be able to pay, just “bark” for new passengers to the jeepney. “Lili! Colon! Carbon!!!”

h. Ask the driver for his route. Then, after hearing his reply, tell him that you made a mistake. Disembark immediately.

i. Wait for some friend to save you. A one-in-a-million chance. While waiting, think of other ways.

j. Sing “Merry Christmas” to the driver. “And a Happy New Year”. Chances would be, other co-passengers would give you coins.

As I browsed through my favorite Sunday paper, I was drawn to the headline because at that time I was in the same city as noted on the page. The scoop was kind of intriguing to me as to what Talisay City had achieved for winning the first place.

The excitement faded as I read through the article - stating that the said city tops the most malnourished children in the whole Cebu province. Tsk! tsk!

I continued flipping the pages when I happened to see the newsboy who had my paper. He was talking to his pal in between rests from selling to passing motorists. And like adults do, they were engaged in smoking! (I know it’s not that surprising…)

The report of my classmate regarding Organization Development stressed that “Change is Good. And it can be Done.” It was a striking introduction: for change in its inevitability can only give us the two sides of the coin.

On a not-so-surprising incident, some of my colleagues in the workplace were into some arguments about the newly implemented policy of the company, which is tedious and erroneous due to unforeseen technical problems. The speakers who were behind the project insisted that everybody is entitled to abide the new policy, which aims to reduce company expense and simplify approach in the management system. The speakers also remarked that every new method/policy/law is bound to detrimental outcome on its early stages - which is, for me, a cliche. However, it was also sad to note that we were bound to cover up from the loopholes created by the immature implementation of the program.

Yes, there is always resistance to change. However, that resistance is prevalent and uproarious when the intellectual knows that there could be something better to do and expect, in the first place.

My childhood friend texted me. ‘Hi! How are you? Sorry I just texted you today because I was a little busy.”

But before that, my thoughts was preoccupied of a career move. Dilemma. Self-pity. Hate.

Then I replied, “Oh, what made you so busy right now?”

“I got a job in mepz. Though it’s not minimum [compensation], they [company] have no age limit…”

Pondering. The pursuit of happiness…

This sudden change in my mood today is not the result of typhoon Frank, who bid my ass goodbye and the M/V Princess of the Stars - whose gigantic state exploded into stardust unto the liquid space. This is nor due to Ces Drilon’s freedom that spurred the entire humanity whether she was raped and if the ransom bills were enough to clothe and hide the mastermind (that is if he got the entire five million fortune).

This is all due to muteness of those words I electronically received. The words that make up the sentence of constructive degradation are so louder than when uttered and expressed with strong feelings. Those words of bewilderment broke my heart and my egoistic self.

I know this feeling is fleeting.

Institutionalizing.

So excited for graduate schooling, I almost missed the first class because I really don’t have any idea as to what room my class would be. I did not dare ask any department assistant before the “Sorry, we are closed”-signed glass door. Instead, I got the wrong bulletin which drove to the nearest internet cafe to check my class schedule online. I left the cafe frustrated and tried my luck back inside the campus.

Finally, after roaming the entire building, I met at the elevator my new classmate/friend, whose acquaintance she created during the enrolment period. If she did not get my attention, I could have missed her – in her formal attire to which she referred to as the get-up she was mistaken to be the teacher of the class by the early-bird classmates (?).

Anyway, she told me our unknown teacher is absent on the first day of our class. That relief was a frustration.

I realize that the latest post I made was a month ago, and it seems like there was nothing good happened to me. You might think that I been in a worse condition after ranting about vertigo and scaring-myself-whatnots.
